What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. Each interval is known as a "pomodoro", from the Italian word for tomato (the timer Cirillo used was tomato-shaped).
How to Use the Pomodoro Timer
- Choose a task - Decide what you want to work on
- Set the timer - Start the 25-minute focus session
- Work until the timer rings - Focus entirely on the task
- Take a short break - Rest for 5 minutes
- Repeat - After 4 pomodoros, take a longer 15-30 minute break
